Russ Biggs
Director of Technology
Russ Biggs joined OpenAQ October 2021. He leads the development and strategic direction of the OpenAQ data platform and tools. Prior to OpenAQ, Russ worked across a variety of sectors including archaeological and environmental consulting, humanitarian assistance, and open data. A classical archaeologist by training, he has worked extensively in data management and digital data collection for cultural resource management with SWCA Environmental Consultants and Statistical Research Inc. as well as archaeological field projects in Sicily and Southern Italy with the University of Arizona and University of Leiden (Netherlands). Russ’ international work also includes providing information management as a GIS Officer for the Syria crisis response based in Antakya, Türkiye. More recently, Russ developed open source tools for transportation and mobility with SharedStreets , managed data collection projects for Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team ’s (HOT) global team and consulted for various non-profits. Russ is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He holds Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classics and a Master of Science Degree in Geographic Information System Technology from the University of Arizona.
